Get acquainted with our Executive Members:

SAMSON (SAM) CORREIA – President

Sam Correia is the “new kid on the GOA presidential block” – the leader of the newbie pack of GOA Executives who, with the exception of Elsa, are all diving in to the deep end of the GOA pool for the first time. He calls Burnaby home, having moved to Canada from Uganda 37 years ago. Making up the Correia Corporation is wife Maureen, son Jason presently serving in the Canadian Navy, daughter Robyn in College, and son Justin who just graduated high school. He works in the transportation industry (Handi Dart) and is also a veteran hockey player (till the knees called time on his athletic pursuits). Sam would like to add a disclaimer right off the bat – he has a memory like a sieve and has a hard time remembering names – a common malady these days. So, don’t be offended if you have to introduce yourself to him a few times before he gets it. If you show up often enough at GOA activities and events and volunteer your time and services, he most definitely will know you by both names.

ANAND (ANU) MONTEIRO – Vice President

If the GOA was looking for the "right man for the right job" they did a good job of scouting out Anu. Who better than a Human Resource Professional, President and owner of Catalyst Training Services, and an active member of Sacred Heart church, to be the Vice President of the GOA. The position was tailor made for him. However, calling the shots at Monteiro HQ is wife Shirin, a personal trainer and fitness instructor, daughter Amanda who just graduated high school, and 8 year old daughter Amber. Anu is an avid sportsman who enjoys playing badminton and watching soccer and cricket. His mandate for his term in office is to increase membership and build community. To that end he is looking for the "right" people to help him. Remember – "Ask not what the GOA can do for you; ask what you can do for the GOA".

EDWARD SOARES – Treasurer

ELSA D’LIMA – General Secretary

The Person who came up with the idea of “Administrative Professionals Day” must have had a “Secretary” like Elsa, who inspired him/her to do so. She is an Administrative Professional par excellence, not only to the VP at Teekay Shipping, but also to the Executive of the GOA. This cute, friendly and engaging lady has a wealth of experience in keeping people on time, on schedule, and on task. Just ask her most ardent admirers – husband Francis, son Ian who is an IT professional and daughter Alyssa, a university student at SFU. In her spare time, Elsa enjoys listening to music and being an active volunteer with various Church ministries, especially the Legion of Mary. Elsa, I heard a rumour the GOA is thinking of making your position a “lifetime” opportunity.

DORIS AMARAL – Socials Director

Anyone who says you can’t have it all has not been introduced to Doris Amaral. She is a catchall of beauty, brains, talent and personality; all worthy qualities to have on any committee. Doris is affectionately called Lorna in GOA circles, because of her authentic renditions of goan melodies. This nightingale of the GOA, and working mother (marketing coordinator for Organika Health Products), counts as her biggest fans, husband Noel, a building technician for SNC Lavalin, and children Nicole and Dwayne. Down time for “Lorna” includes indulging in her other hobbies and passions – dancing, cooking, clothes, drawing, painting, and last but not least - singing with her band “The Big Beats”. She should add ‘juggling’ to that laundry list of activities – she already does it so well!

Charmaine Rozario - Publicity and Communications Director

To get an accurate description of our new P & C Director, look no further than her name – CHARMAINE! This attractive, friendly and charming lady was one of the main people responsible for the success of last year’s New Year’s Eve Gala. Comfortable working diligently behind the scenes, she has been a staunch ally and supporter of all GOA events and activities since she and partner (in crime) Rey D’Cunha, relocated to Richmond from Toronto 5 yrs ago. In her past life (BGOA) this understated lady enjoyed a successful career in the airline & hospitality industry, and traversed various parts of the globe. She is also fluent in quite a few Indian dialects, so watch your Ps & Qs around her. Her interests and activities include learning more on a wide range of topics from alternative healing methods to the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012, and her volunteer work with various charities & organizations. You can look forward to receiving many communiqué from her in the future, keeping us all in the GOA loop. May the force go with you Charmaine!

Christopher Correia - Sports & Youth Director

If you’re going to have an effective Sports & Youth director it is prudent to choose one that qualifies on both levels. 24 year young Chris is an avid soccer fan, and besides being on the GOA Executive, he is also an active member of the Y-GOA and the GOA Sports Club. Chris has ambitious plans to unite and organize the Goan youth and has already enjoyed much success in that direction. He and other fellow Y-Goenkars have organized several well-attended and well-received outdoor excursions and promise us many more to come. This Richmond native will soon call Ontario home though, as he heads to Ryerson University in the fall to go to graduate school and get his Masters of Planning degree, with a focus on housing – a hot topic these days. Keep on trucking Chris. May the GOA force be with you.
